Mariner seniors win alumni scholarships
The Mariner High School Alumni Association recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to 12 graduating seniors.
The scholarship recipients are Adanna Abakporo, Rabiah Ahmad, Sarah Borland, Rocio Casteneda Lopez, Sandra Chavez, Tireza Getahun, Chris Long, Stephanie Napier, Laura Pfeifer, Anupreet Sidhu, Perissa Turner and Elisa Zamora.
Daril Perez also received the Clyde Divens Memorial $1,000 scholarship. Perissa Turner received the Margaret Kimball Memorial $500 scholarship.
Mariner senior earns several scholarships
Mariner High School senior Katelyn Kelly-Perrott recently received the College Success Foundation Bill Gates Scholarship for $42,000.
She is also the recipient of the Mukilteo School District Foundation Scholarship for $1,000, the Mukilteo Association Classified Personnel Scholarship for $1,000, the President’s Education Awards for Outstanding Academic Excellence from President Barack Obama, and the Mariner Certificate of Achievement for being in the top 10 percent in her class.
She was also the Wendy’s High School Heisman School Winner and received the Mariner Certificate of Achievement for the physical education department as well as the Rocky Miller Award for Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year.
Katelyn was ASB vice president her senior year and a member of the National Honor Society for four years with 3.83 garde-point average. She is the daughter of Kathleen Kelly of Everett and Robert Perrott of Granite Falls. She plans to study secondary education at the University of Washington.
Mariner student honored by Rotary
The South Everett~Mukilteo Rotary Club honored Austin Angeles as student of the month.
He represents Mariner High School. Austin was presented with a plaque for his academic work and his numerous contributions to the school.
He maintains a GPA of 3.7 and is involved with National Honor Society, GREAN Club, and Raising Student Voice and Participation. He lettered for three years in track and field and produced a video tribute for the school’s Martin Luther King assembly.
He plans to attend the University of Washington.
WSU student receives veterinary award
Kelly Hollister of Snohomish recently received a $1,000 Beardsley Family Foundation Honors Veterinary Medicine Scholarship from the Washington State University Honors College.
To qualify for the scholarship, a student must participate in the Honors College Veterinary Medicine Program, have a good academic standing in the program and have an interest working in a large animal veterinary practice.
Hollister graduated from Snohomish High School in 2007. She is currently studying animal sciences and preveterinary medicine and expects to graduate in 2011. Hollister is on the president’s honor roll, is a member of the Organization of Future Veterinarians and Alumni Collection Club, and a student herdsman at the WSU Beef Cattle Center.
She also earned a position in the Honors College Pre-Admitted Veterinary Medicine Program.
Hollister is the daughter of Mo and Steve Hollister of Snohomish.
Rotary honors Terrace students
The Alderwood-Terrace Rotary Foundation and Mountlake Terrace High School principal Greg Schwab recognized the following students of the month at a ceremony June 9 at the high school in Mountlake Terrace.
Students of the month were: Corinne Pingul and Pace Cordova-Smith for September; Juliet Le and Michael Ward for October; Teryn Bouche and Hector Richarte for November; Clara Randall Rink and Navarre Kerr for December; Alexis Rios and Brandon Crader for January; Mackenzie Flood and Alan Garcia for February; Kaitlyn Hatch and Joshua Blaisdell for March; Alix Denin and Wesley Dawn for April; Raechel Pendergraft and Miles Erickson for May; and Kelsi Seidlitz and Casey Ellersick for June.
Corinne Pingul and Hector Richarte were also honored as students of the year.
WSU student receives leadership award
Rachel Solemsaas was recently awarded the Leadership Studies Excellence Fund from Washington State University.
Solemsaas is pursuing her doctoral degree in the higher education administration program with an emphasis on community college and is expected to graduate from WSU in May 2011.
She is the daughter of Myra Herrera of the Philippines and Rolando Herrera of Everett.
