Local students earn 10 scholarships
The YMCA of Snohomish County Minority Achievers Program recently hosted the 11th annual Recognition and Scholarship Banquet.
The Minority Achievers Program aims to motivate and support students of color and immigrant students, ages 11 through
19, to achieve higher educational and career goals.
The program over the years has provided students with more than 80 scholarships worth a total of $45,000.
The following students received scholarships this year:
• Everett High School: Domineek Buford and Alisa Rud
• Everett Community College: Val Hennings
• Kamiak High School: Jamela Barfield
• Lynnwood High School: Mireya Alvarado
• Mariner High School: Marvic “Angel” Vasquez
• Marysville Getchell High School: Pamela Mendoza, Shaina Apresto and Erica Kolomeyes
• Monroe High School: Jose Perez
Everett woman on Wesleyan honor roll
Kjerstin Stupey of Everett was named to the president’s honor roll for the spring semester at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas.
Snohomish grad gets Fulbright scholarship
Snohomish High School graduate Ashleen Williams has received a Fulbright scholarship.
She will be going to Bahrain for a year.
Williams graduated from the University of Montana with honors. She was the ASUM president and spoke at commencement.
She also recently received the university’s community recognition award for service to international students and represented Montana at the Henry Clay Student Congress.
Marysville student earns scholarship
Amanda Nunley of Marysville has been awarded $3,000 for the next academic year at Eastern Washington University.
Nunley graduated from Lakewood High School in 2008, where she played softball and soccer. She is studying dental hygiene at Eastern Washington.
She is the daughter of Lori and Chris Nunley of Marysville.
