Jackson junior to sit on Everett School Board
Henry M. Jackson High School junior Dhruvik Parikh will serve as the newest student representative on the Everett School Board in 2016-17. His first meeting will be in September. He was introduced to board members at a May meeting.
Parikh will be “the latest in a series of student representatives whose voice, if not vote, weighs in on district governance issues,” according to Everett School District staff. He also is expected to serve his senior year.
Student representatives have been sitting with board members since 2011.
“What better way to have our number one customer ‘at the table’ when we make decisions?” said Board President Ted Wenta.
In his application for the position, Parikh wrote that he wants to make STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) a priority and to help every student graduate from high school. He believes this work is done by helping every student feel connected to the administration and school community.
