Season of colors: From millenial pink to solar eclipse black

1. Pink

The much-hyped color known as “millennial pink” is showing up not only in workout wear and hair color, but also in back-to-school accessories.

Notebooks, pencils, backpacks and folders can also be found in the muted pink. Even those pink erasers are sporting the popular shade.

Drink in some pink in with water and thermal bottles by d.stil, developed by a Seattle-based company. A portion of proceeds benefit water.org, for global sanitation and safe water projects. Cost is $14.99-$19.99.

2. Pink and blue

Hey, expectant parents. You have a month to make plans to attend BabyFest on Sept. 23 in Seattle.

Sponsored by UW Medicine, the event has more than 100 exhibits. Win prizes, get pampered, shop and be educated. Workshops include breastfeeding, babywearing, baby sign language, baby massage, cloth diapering and even introducing the dog to your new baby.

A mega baby shower caps the day with an hour of games and prizes from leading companies in the baby industry.

There are activity areas and entertainment for children already born, so bring them along.

Dads, too. There’s a DaddyZone of exhibits and the guys get their own baby shower.

The event is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23, Seattle Center Exhibition Hall, 301 Mercer St. Cost is $20 a person or $30 a couple. Children 12 and under are free.

3. Black

Remember to wear proper eye protection before staring at the sun tomorrow morning during the total solar eclipse.

The countdown starts at about 9:09 a.m., reaches a peak of 92 percent in the Everett area at 10:21 a.m., and ends at 11:39 a.m.

Wear solar-eclipse shades with lenses of aluminized mylar to look at the eclipse. If lenses have scratches, are wrinkled or are more than three years old, they are considered unsafe and should not be used.

Warning: Some unsafe solar eclipse sunglasses are being distributed. NASA provides a list of reputable glasses manufacturers on its website.
