In a celebration of Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein, the Seattle Men’s and Women’s choruses will join their more than 400 voices to pay tribute to these two titans of musical theater.
The concert, “Glitter and Be Gay,” closes out the 30th season of the men’s chorus and marks the first time these two choruses have joined together in song, according to press material about the concert at Seattle’s McCaw Hall.
Special guests for the evening include narrator David Armstrong, artistic director of the 5th Avenue Theatre; Spectrum Dance performing a piece composed by Leonard Bernstein from “Wonderful Town”; and soprano Megan Chenovick, who will sing the title number “Glitter and Be Gay” from “Candide,” a musical composed by Bernstein with lyrics by Sondheim.
Other Bernstein and Sondheim collaborations to be sung include pieces from “West Side Story,” “Sunday in the Park With George,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Assassins” and “A Little Night Music.”
“Glitter and be Gay” starts at 8 tonight and 8 p.m. Saturday at McCaw Hall, 321 Mercer St., Seattle.

“We Are Family”: Oct. 3, McIntyre Hall, 2501 E. College Way, Mount Vernon. Seattle Women’s Chorus features segments of Rosie O’Donnell’s HBO documentary film, “A Family is a Family is a Family,” along with Broadway selections by Sondheim and Rodgers &Hammerstein.
“Holiday Glee”: Dec. 4, Everett Civic Auditorium, 2415 Colby Ave., Everett. The Seattle Men’s Chorus holiday concert showcases American music along with production numbers from the television show “Glee.”
“Life is a Cabaret”: March 26, Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds. The Seattle Men’s Chorus features music that highlights the lives of gay men in Germany before, during and after the Nazi era, including music by Kurt Weill and Marlene Dietrich and songs from “Cabaret” and from the Broadway musical “Spring Awakening.”
