For the past 13 years Seattle Opera has opened its doors to a class of aspiring singers in it’s Young Artist Program.
The singers, typically in their late 20s, have the chance to work closely under the tutelage of music director Brian Garman.
As audiences, we have the opportunity to see these rising stars of the opera world as they blossom into their careers.
This year, the class is putting on Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” a mixture of comedy, melodrama and the supernatural.
The production will rely on technology and multi-media tricks to provide a set. The costumes, by Seattle designer Candace Frank, are reminiscent of the styles of the roaring 1920s.
The series moves from the hallowed stage of McCaw Hall to Bellevue’s Meydenbauer Center.
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Other evening performances are scheduled for April 7 and April 9. A 2 p.m. matinee is scheduled Sunday. Tickets cost $20 for students, $50 for adults.
