Seattle theater lineup announced

It’s that time of year when performing arts groups announce the lineups for the fall of 2015 through the summer of 2016. The following are just some of the 2015-16 Seattle seasons announced.

Pacific Northwest Ballet’s 43rd season

“See the Music”: Sept. 25 to Oct. 4, includes George Balanchine’s “Prodigal Son,” Christopher Wheeldon’s “Tide Harmonic” and Jerome Robbins’ comedy “The Concert.”

“Emergence”: Nov. 6 to 15, features the title work by Crystal Pite, along with Kiyon Gaines’ “Sum Stravinsky” and Jessica Lang’s “The Calling” and a world premiere by the company’s own Price Suddarth.

“The Nutcracker”: The Balanchine version, with new scenic and costume design by children’s book author Ian Falconer, runs Nov. 27 through Dec. 28.

“Romeo et Juliette”: The Maillot version, set to Prokofiev’s score, is Feb. 5 to 14.

“Le Corsaire: A Pirate’s Tale”: With choreography by Marius Petipa and performances by PNB students, it’s March 20 to 26, 2016.

“Coppelia”: The comedy that involves a life-size doll, with choreography by Danilova and Balanchine, is April 15 to 24, 2016.

“American Stories”: June 3 to 12, 2016, includes Bernstein’s and Robbins’ “Fancy Free”; Balanchine’s “Square Dance,” set to Vivaldi; and “Waiting at the Station,” with music by Allen Toussaint and choreography by Twyla Tharp.

5th Avenue Theatre’s 35th season

“Matilda The Musical”: First national tour, Seattle premiere of the Tony award-winning musical based on Roald Dahl’s story, Aug. 18 through Sept. 6.

“Waterfall”: A 5th Avenue Theatre co-production with Pasadena Playhouse, Broadway-bound world premiere based on a contemporary classic Thai novel “Behind the Painting” by Sriburapha, Oct. 1 to 25.

Rodgers &Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music”: A 5th Avenue production with full orchestra and Seattle actors, Nov. 24 through Jan. 3.

“How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”: A 5th Avenue production of the musical story from the 1960s, Jan. 28 through Feb. 21, 2016.

Stephen Sondheim’s “Assassins”: A 5th Avenue Theatre co-production with A Contemporary Theatre, March 3 through May 15, 2016, at ACT. In a carnival shooting gallery the audience meets the assassins who tried to (or did) kill presidents.

“Sleeping Beauty Wakes”: A new musical produced by the 5th Avenue Theatre, March 29 through April 17, 2016. After dozing for a millennium, Sleeping Beauty wakes up in a modern-day sleep disorder clinic.

Lerner &Loewe’s “Paint Your Wagon”: A 5th Avenue production of the classic musical, set in California during the Gold Rush, June 2 to 26, 2016.

“A Gentleman’s Guide to Love &Murder”: Direct from New York, this 2014 Tony award-winning musical runs July 12 to 31, 2016.

Seattle Opera’s 2015/16 season

“Nabucco”: Giuseppe Verdi, Aug. 8 to 22.

“An American Dream”: Jack Perla, Aug. 21 and 23.

“The Pearl Fishers”: Georges Bizet, Oct. 17 to 31.

“The Marriage of Figaro”: W.A. Mozart, Jan. 16 to 30.

“Mary Stuart”: Gaetano Donizetti, Feb. 27 and 28 and March 2 to 12, 2016.

“The Flying Dutchman”: Richard Wagner, May 7 to 21, 2016.

Seattle Theatre Group’s Broadway touring shows at the Paramount

“Annie”: With “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” Sept. 20 to 26.

“If/Then”: The new musical, which starred Idina Menzel on Broadway, about living in New York City, Nov. 3 to 8.

“Bullets Over Broadway”: The musical based on the Woody Allen movie, Feb. 2 to 7, 2016.

“Jersey Boys”: The musical about Frankie Valli and his crew, March 8 to 13, 2016.

Disney’s “Newsies”: They delivered the papers, until they made the headlines, April 26 through May 1, 2016.

“Motown The Musical”: The American dream story of Motown founder Berry Gordy, May 31 through June 12, 2016.

Also, season options include: “Riverdance,” Oct. 30 through Nov. 1; Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” Dec. 11 to 13; “The Book of Mormon,” Dec. 29 to Jan. 10; Blue Man Group, March 31 to April 3, 2016.
