The Civil War rises again on the streets of Marblemount when members of the Washington Civil War Association re-enact a battle between Union and Confederate forces going head to head with musket and artillery fire.
The battle will be joined at 1 p.m. April 17 and 18 between the Army of the Columbia (Union) commanded by Col. Ted Sayler and the Adams Legion (Confederate) commanded by Col. Toby Gully.
Spectators can watch the troops drilling from 10 a.m. to noon both days on the ball field next to the North Cascade Business Association building, or wander through the encampments before and after the battles.
The Battle of Marblemount has been going on for about 15 years, said Marshall Cooper, one of the local business people involved in organizing the event.
“The soldiers like Marblemount, because it is a small village and the surrounding mountains add to the realism of the battle,” he said.
Some of the nonmilitary participants dress in the manner of the Civil War era.
Last year’s battle had almost 100 re-enactors and about 300 spectators, Cooper said.
The Washington Civil War Association is a nonprofit organization whose members strive to honor the memory of those men and women who sacrificed for the causes they believed in during the American Civil War.
