Seeing bald eagles and learning more about our region’s iconic fish make these free hatchery tours in Skagit County a total nature experience.
Now that the bald eagles have returned to the Skagit River watershed, it’s a perfect time to take a free tour of the Marblemount Fish Hatchery and learn about salmon.
The Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group has trained volunteer tour guides to teach visitors about the operations of the hatchery, salmon and their life cycles, the habitat needs of salmon and other local wildlife, and, last but not least, bald eagles.
In addition, chances are high to see part, if not all, of the salmon life cycle at the hatchery and also to spy bald eagles in action, according to a press release about the tours.
Guided tours are offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday — except Jan. 1 — through the end of January at the Marblemount Fish Hatchery, 8319 Fish Hatchery Road, Marblemount. Plenty of parking is available on site. Tours start inside the visitors center. If you’d like more information, contact Katie Lutz at education@skagitfisheries.org.
If you can’t attend when guided tours are offered, the Marblemount Fish Hatchery is open to visitors seven days a week and has a self-guided tour available.
The Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group is a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging the community in restoring future wild salmon populations.
