50 YEARS AGO (1959)

The Snohomish-Island County Tuberculosis Association was hosting the regional conference of the Washington TB Association tomorrow at the Alpine Cafeteria. Patricia Hughes and Clyde Rasmussen were conducting the conference. Delegates also were arriving from Clallam, Jefferson, Kitsap, Skagit and Whatcom counties.

Traffic along the Bothell-Everett Highway began getting a break at the Broadway Cutoff intersection at noon today. A system of stop and go lights went into effect at the that time, the State Patrol announced. Due to heavy traffic, it was nearly impossible for north- and southbound traffic to get across the intersection.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)

First Interstate Bancorp’s board of directors approved a merger between its affiliate First Interstate Bank of Washington and Everett-based Olympic Bank. The banks had agreed on the merger in March. Olympic would be absorbed into the First Interstate system sometime between Thanksgiving and the end of the year.

A birdie on the closing hole won for Jeff Knudson and Doug Lauer of Everett the Washington State Best Ball Championship. Lauer had won it four times before and Knudson twice.
