50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Congressman Jack Westland announced today that the Atomic Energy Commission planned to study the feasibility of using the old Cascade railroad tunnel as a site for a linear accelerator. The tunnel was situated at Stevens Pass and used by the Great Northern Railway until a longer tunnel was finished in 1929.
John H. Hulvey was elected superintendent of Marysville School District at a special meeting Monday evening of the board of directors. For the past four and one-half years he had served as assistant superintendent in Marysville.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Snohomish housing authority’s director said that four of the five “Soapsuds Row” houses on Avenue A would be completely redone and rented to senior citizens. The project to save the Blackman Mill company row houses was the idea of the Snohomish Historical Society and its president, Jim Beley.
Wade Praeger and Lori Lakshas were winners in the Silver Lake Triathlon. Those competing had to swim a mile in the lake, bike 13.5 miles to Seattle Hill Elementary and run five miles to Thornton A. Sullivan Park. Competitors could share the three legs or go it alone.
