50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Carney Enger and Al Dimsdale were appointed to handle the accommodations that went with staging the third annual Pacific Northwest Airfair. The show, featuring the Thunderbirds, crack Air Force jet team, would be Aug. 29 and 30 at Paine Field.
Owners Archie Baker and Kenneth Callaghan hosted an open house at Hillcrest Manor, a new rental apartment at 3201 Nassau St. The six-unit building was constructed by Ivan Rimstad. Wall-to-wall carpets, mahogany kitchen cabinets, colored appliances, electric heating and soundproofing were featured in the two-bedroom apartments.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Melissa Keene, daughter of Dan and Cheryl Keene of Sultan, was a contestant in the Miss Continental Pageant in Las Vegas. Businesses and other Sultan folk contributed to help pay her way.
Toys “R” Us on Alderwood Mall Boulevard in Lynnwood was selling the “official” Michael Jackson doll. It was the first store in America to have the doll. A “Thriller,” the 12-inch poseable doll was dressed in Michael’s stage and video outfits, including a glove. The price was $10.97.
