50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Douglas Nordstrom, Explorer Scout from Post 25, sponsored by Faith Lutheran church, received from Walt Nelson, Explorer committee chairman for Evergreen Area Council, the trophy won in the National Rifle Association-Boy Scouts of America annual Explorer Rifle Match.
Carl Marana and Dick Miranda, Everett Tradewell managers, presented car keys to Mabel Scheib and Grover Friend after the pair submitted the winning estimates on the value of two carloads of groceries parked at the Broadway and Evergreen Way stores. Each came within a dime of the total value.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
A new lumber-grading technology to be introduced at the Weyerhaeuser Co.’s lumber mill in north Everett this June would allow the mill to serve new markets and improve competitiveness, company spokesman Jim Bradbury announced this week. The company was investing $400,000 to update an older machine brought from the Snoqualmie Mill.
Russ and Jean Holt were to be honored at a golden wedding anniversary open house at the Martha Lake Community Hall. Hosts were their children and families. The Holts were married May 13, 1934, in Alderwood Manor.
