50 YEARS AGO (1959)
The congregation of Central Christian Church gave unanimous approval to the start of construction on a new sanctuary, to be built as an addition to the recently completed education unit at 2602 Hoyt Ave. It would be constructed by Robert “Scotty” Turner of Everett.
Berkshire Crest was the name of a new eight-unit apartment building at Berkshire Drive and Cady Road. An open house was from 2 to 5 p.m. today. O’Connor and Cronin had taken their first venture into apartments with the new two-bedroom units, all of which had drapes with a pinkish-beige nubby weave and Formica countertops.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Linda Riley, former planner for Shasta County in California and environmental planner for a Sacramento firm, was hired by the city of Mukilteo as a planner and code-enforcement officer. The Stanwood resident replaced Bonnie Bars, who resigned to take a job with King County.
Work on a concrete span to replace the worn wooden bridge over South Slough near Sultan was to begin this month. It was located about a mile south of town on Munn Road, north of the Ben Howard Road intersection. The project would cost nearly $360,000.
