50 YEARS AGO (1959)
This Friday there was another dollar dinner from 4 to 7:15 at the Elgin Cafeteria on Hewitt Avenue. Saturday was tenderloin steak night. Patrons could have their ticket stamped for free parking.
Seven young county students were listed in the Evergreen State Fair spelling contest scheduled for Sept. 4. Contestants were John Mooney of Index, Walter Anderson of East Stanwood, Carolyn Mattox of Lake Stevens, Fred Smith of Gold Bar, Jeanne Sabo of Arlington, Jim Flateboe of Everett and Kathleen Hozhauser of Edmonds.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
The Everett Giants made their first-ever game a success by downing the Tri-Cities Triplets 6-2 at a Northwest League exhibition game yesterday in Wenatchee. Kent Cooper had three hits and Alan Cockrell scored two runs to lead Everett. Manager Rockey Bridges said he was pleased with the team’s performance.
Norma Toblas, precinct clerk at the Snohomish County Sheriff’s North Precinct office almost since it was founded five years ago, was honored with a luncheon and community service plaque by the Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce. Chamber President Dean Likkel cited her excellent service to the community.
