50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Steward Collins, exalted ruler of the Everett Elks, and Bill Gorbutt, president of the Everett Kiwanis, displayed a 49-star U.S. flag that the Kiwanis presented to the Elks. The flag could be flown today for Flag Day, but would not be official until July Fourth.
When classes dismissed this spring, the old Sunnyside School ceased being a school and became an empty building. Now a part of the Marysville School District, the 80-year-old building was deemed too expensive to renovate. Its students would be transported to Cascade School this fall.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Humberto L. Degiorgi was named recipient of the Snohomish County AFL/CIO scholarship, which was a year’s tuition to either Everett or Edmonds community colleges.
Chari Brown, daughter of Jim and Rosario Brown, and Kyle Smith, son of Myron and Jann Smith, were girl and boy of month for May at Marysville-Pilchuck High School. Todd Cort, son of Ed and Lil Cort, and Kris Wilde, daughter of Al and Pati Furiak, were boy and girl of the month for June at Marysville-Pilchuck. The award was sponsored by the Marysville Kiwanis and Soroptomist organizations.
