50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Installation of officers for the Marysville Lions Club would be a feature of the annual Ladies Night. Carroll Barlow, Snohomish County assessor, was the new president. He would be assisted by John McInnis, first vice president; Leonard Richards, second vice president; and LeRoy Schuh, third vice president.
Officers of the Ascenders Inc. local flying club posed before the four-passenger Cessna 170-B the organization recently purchased and that its members now fly out of Arlington Airport. They were Stan Wood, Dorothy Caldwell and Don Pringle. The club was accepting new memberships.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
About 15 volunteer firefighters and Chief Bob Merritt finished moving equipment from the old Snohomish station on Avenue A to the newly finished structure on the north end of Avenue D. Among things transported to the new station were a vintage 1895 billiards table, an aluminum boat and an antique grinding wheel.
Snohomish County PUD’s hydroelectric project on the Sultan River began commercial generation. PUD spokesman Kerry Edwards said it was on schedule and on budget. It was the first solo attempt by the utility to break from the bonds of the Bonneville Power Administration.
