50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Margaret Platt and Mary Duryee, two quota-busters in the YMCA campaign for $650,000, helped place subscribed tiles on a replica of the “Builders Wall” on display in the windows of the Penney store. This drew the public’s attention to the need for new walls and rooms.
Grand opening of a new Mode O’Day dress shop in Snohomish would continue through Satruday with special prizes and gifts being offered for three days. Free coffee was being served, according to manager Helen Calhoun, who came to Snohomish recently from Spokane. The new store, located at 1004 First St., was one of more than 600.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Gov. John Spellman wound up his first day on the 1984 campaign trail in Everett talking music and politics with members of the Sultan High School Stage Band. Student Wendy Trammell quizzed the incumbent Republican about salmon and fishing rights. Dan Hartman was the band director.
Marysville School Superintendent Richard Huselton said the district would be working closely with the Navy and Everett and county efficacies to learn how the district would be impacted with a Navy base in Everett. An influx in the student population was expected.
