50 YEARS AGO (1959)
“Maids in Japan” was the theme of North Junior High School’s annual fashion parade. Linda, Casper, Daly Foss, Janet Cunningham and Margaret Wood, students in the home economics department, donned petite Japanese outfits.
Scoring 354 out of a possible 400, Jon Salisbury won the Junior Road-e-o Saturday afternoon at Garfield School. The event was sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Ralph Bardon with a 334 took second place and Dwight Koch wound up in the show spot with 318. The judges were Roland Larson, Phil Meyer and Bob Landon.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
The General Hospital Foundation was donating a third fitness court to the Parks and Recreation Department, said Jim Shields, parks department assistant director. The hospital already had donated courts at Legion Park and Silver Lake.
Granite Falls residents doing a little spring cleaning in their yards could have debris hauled away free, Arlene Stilley, president of the Granite Chamber of Commerce, announced. The project was sponsored by the chamber, city officials and other community groups. Middle school students were assisting. Howard Hughes and Joe Poplin volunteered to drive trucks.
