50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Gladys Kincaid, second-grade teacher at View Ridge Elementary School, received an Acorn Pin as a symbol of honorary life membership from the Everett School District Council of PTA at its annual Life Membership Breakfast. The award was given to a teacher each year in recognition of work as a PTA member, and money in the award went to help students entering the teaching profession.
Finding their way to Olympia for the Youth and Government Day were five elected officers representing Everett. Nominated and elected at the pre-legislative assembly in Bellingham, they were Claus Koser, Lee “Corky” Barton, Randy Smith, Bill Mackey and Jeff Nelson.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that a limited amount of federal dollars were available under a rehabilitation program. They could be used in the target areas of Riverside, Northeast Everett, Port Gardner, Lowell and the Central Business District.
A special plaque of appreciation was presented recently to Diane Holdren, president of the Evergreen Middle School PTA, for her three years as a volunteer in school nurse station and as PTA president. Principal William Palmer presented the award.
