50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Everett was to be the nerve center of the entire Pacific Northwest in case of the nation’s attack, it was revealed today by Philip D. Batson, regional director of Civil and Defense Mobilization. Everett would be one of eight such stations in the country. The office, to open on March 1, would be in the former administration building of the shipyard here.
Elizabeth Osterhoff, chair of Zonta’s Service Club committee, received some magazines from Delia Stephenson, Zonta’s secretary for the magazine drive, which the club was holding for the benefit of the Center for the Handicapped. The Volunteers of America would pick up the magazines.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Loren Curry and the rest of the staff at the Snohomish County Extension Service were up to their ears with boxes as they packed for their office move to McCollum Park on 128th Street about eight miles south of Everett. They planned to make the move in about a week.
Pfc. John A. Kussy, of Granite Falls, was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s badge for participation in the Grenada operations.
