50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Associated Sand and Gravel Co. was awarding a faculty fellowship of $1,000 in the field of engineering to an instructor at Everett Junior College. Representing the college was president Fred Giles. Representing Associated were owners George P. Duecy and Howard F. Sievers.
The Royal-Tees, an organization of motor bikes owners, was formed in Everett. Officers were Duane Conklin, Curtis Koukal, Lauren Stengrun, John Bingaman, Ron Dahl, Allan Curtis, Bruce Caldwell, Pat Lansing and Ron Fenrich. The purpose of the group was to promote safe driving among motor bike operators.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Snohomish County Council named Julia Gibb its new administrator. She replaced Judy Ball, who resigned in September to take a job with the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. Gibb had previously worked as a civil deputy in the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s office.
Four Sultan High School students nabbed first place in the second Knowledge Bowl competition of the year. Robyn Fry, Charles Estes, David Burns and Dennis Ochs comprised the winning team out of 75 from Snohomish, Island, San Juan, Skagit and Whatcom counties that competed at Edmonds High School.
