50 YEARS AGO (1958)
Frances Gallagher, Herald social editor, was guest speaker at a gathering of the teacher honorary group Alpha Delta Kappa. Guests said they were intrigued to learned about Gallagher’s submarine exploits and recent reports on President Dwight Eisenhower and Vice President Richard Nixon. At the meeting, Viola Oursler received a past president’s pin.
GallenKamp’s Shoes for the Entire Family was having a three-day grand opening starting tomorrow at 2804 Colby Ave., next to Frolich &Hurd. You could follow the search light to the new store. Beginning next week, they would be open evenings until Christmas.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
The Everett Elks lodge No. 479 on Rucker Avenue at California Street was sponsoring Reno Nights for member Elks, Elks wives and Elk-sponsored guests. There was fun and food for everyone from 7 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday and from 4 p.m. to midnight Saturday. Games included blackjack, craps, chuck-a-luck and beat the dealer.
Cordz Auto Electric at 2915 Ave. advertised that you could buy now and not pay ‘til you till with your new roto-tiller. The Ariens Power charge delayed payment until March 1, 1984.
