50 YEARS AGO (1958)
The following downtown stores would be open until 9 tonight and every night this week except Saturday, and then every night until Christmas: Cuthbertsons, Burnett Bros., Everett Camera Shop, Montgomery Ward, Friedlanders, Bon Marche, Penney’s, Weisfield’s Inc., F.W. Woolworth, Sears-Roebuck Co., Millers Dept. Store, Chaffee’s, S.H. Kress Co., J.J. Newberry Co.
The first new gasoline brand name in years had come to Everett in the form of Carter stations. Olson’s Carter Servicecenter, located at 23rd and Broadway, was run by Harry Olson. D.&I. Carter Servicecenter, run by Ivan Looke and Dick McClanahan, was at Madison and Highway 99 S.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
Many Everett homes had been built by students passing through Everett and Cascade high school vocational carpentry classes. Jim Drake, one-time maker of custom furniture, had served as teacher/contractor/designer the past seven years. The latest project was the Burnham home off Mukilteo Boulevard.
Many pet owners compared Tim O’Rourke to author/veterinarian James Herriot. Everett’s “Yorkshire vet” told the same tales and comforted local pet owners who were suffering through their cat’s arthritis or their dog’s digestive disorders.
