50 YEARS AGO (1958)
Construction of 10 new units along Lombard Avenue to raise the total to 24 was announced by the Waits Motel at 13th Street and Lombard. A new home and office also were added. The eighth motel he had constructed since 1940, Stanley F. Waits opened the local motel with his wife a year ago. A block off Highway 99 (Broadway), it provided a quiet atmosphere and free television in each unit.
The cheerfulness of the holiday was heightened in cities and towns throughout the area with Christmas trees and other outdoor decorations. A tree, aglow with multi-colored lights, stood in the middle of State Street in Marysville.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
Gary Fazzio was named to the newly created position of Northwest public affairs manager for Hewlett-Packard. Fazzio would be based at the temporary site in Marysville and planned to move to the permanent facility in Lake Stevens. He had been with the company since 1977.
Stuart and Katie and their children, Julie and Jeanne, of San Jose, Calif., were spending the holidays with her parents, Mike and Billie Falkner of Lake Stevens.
