50 YEARS AGO (1958)
Vice President Richard Nixon told a cheering, overflow crowd at Everett Civic Auditorium Friday night that a firm policy was a peace policy. The vice president’s charter jet landed at Paine Field on schedule and citizens of the 2nd Congressional District, 2,500 strong, turned out for the Halloween night speech.
Edwin P. Kirchgessner of Everett was retiring after 20 years with the U.S. Navy, 16 as a submariner. He and his family would make their home in Lake Stevens.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
In a move designed to continue developing management succession, John M. Fluke, chairman and founder of the John M. Fluke Manufacturing Co. Inc., intended to resign as chief executive officer. John Fluke Jr., who would remain as vice chairman of the board and chairman of the executive committee, was elected by the board to assume the chief executive officer position.
Kerrie Janik, a second-grader at Lowell Elementary School, tried to protect herself from the rain and wind while walking home from school. Everett was bracing itself for another blustery storm tonight as the third in a series blew in from the ocean.
