50 YEARS AGO (1958)
Grand opening of the enlarged and remodeled Coast to Coast Store at Everett and Colby avenues was announced for tomorrow. There were new windows, new floors, new lighting and new outside signs. Brothers Bob and Karl Fankhauser had opened the store six years ago.
Owners of an old building on the southwest corner of Hewitt and Norton avenues told Everett officials they could comply with an order by the city building inspector to begin demolition within 48 hours. Lawrence Erickson, city building inspector, told the city council that the owners had failed to put the building in satisfactory condition.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
Carl Madsen wrote a letter to The Herald encouraging Everett citizens to welcome the U.S. Navy into town. He noted that the mills were all gone and that there were vacant storefronts along Hewitt and Colby avenues.
You could win at the losing game at Diet Center with locations in Everett, Marysville, Snohomish, Stanwood and Lynnwood. The average overweight American threw away millions of dollars annually on gimmick and fad diets. Diet Center promoted itself as a program for taking off pounds sensibly and safely.
