50 YEARS AGO (1958)
Getting set for their annual Pancake Festival, members of Everett Kiwanis Club were practicing the art of cooking and turning flapjacks. Cooks included Chuck Ruthford, Fred Hall, Bob Loken, Carl Romaneschi and Clark Salisbury.
A proposed driving age change from 16 to 18 years was the topic of a panel discussion at the first regular meeting of the Everett High School PTA. Panel members included city police Sgt. Frank Patterson, Judge Tom Stiger and students Gary Pepple and Karen Hegel. Thayne W. Anderson was PTA president.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
Barbara McCarthy, director of marketing and public relations at Everett’s Frontier Bank, won the woman-of-year title from the Pilchuck chapter of the National Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was an active volunteer for the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, Downtown Everett Association, United Way, Everett School District and Mukilteo Business Association.
A paved six-mile section of the Mountain Loop Highway from White Chuck River to Darrington was opened last week thanks to a new bridge. The span replaced one that was destroyed by the flood of 1980.
