50 YEARS AGO (1958)
First of the 1959 models to hit the American market was Buick, on display today at Allen Buick on Colby Avenue at Wall Street. It had all-new styling. Also updated were the model names. They were LeSabre (Special), Invicta (Century), and Electra (Super and Roadmaster).
This weekend’s flower show at Floral Hall, sponsored by the Everett Garden Club, was entitled “Around the World With Autumn Show.” In charge was Elizabeth Zeigler. The Rodland children, Barbara and Wallace, already had prepared arrangements for the show. She had driftwood with stones and figurines, while he had a fat man made from a cabbage with radish buttons.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
Offering hope for tomorrow and help for today, Chapter Four of the American Diabetes Association was hosting a one-day seminar and workshop at the Stillaguamish Senior Center in Arlington. Free diabetic screenings were offered each month at Cornell Drugs on State Avenue in Marysville.
At age 26, Bill Campbell, president of the fledgling Snohomish Rotary Club, was among the youngest rotary club presidents in the international service club’s history. He hoped this would help attract other young men into the organization.
