50 years ago (1963)
Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Lenzie of Freeland announced the engagement of their daughter, Karen Marie, to William Herbert Neumeister, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Neumeister, 4911 View Drive. Both were graduates of the University of Washington and he was attending UW Medical School.
Barbara Conklin was to be installed worthy adviser of Alderwood Assembly No. 55 of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. The open installment would be in the Robert Burns Masonic Temple in Alderwood Manor. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newman Conklin.
25 years ago (1988)
The first step was taken to zero in on traffic problems in Everett stemming from construction of the U.S. Navy base. The Everett City Council authorized the city to advertise for a consultant to study road problems. About $80,000 was approved for that purpose last year by the Legislature.
Radio Shack at the Everett Mall advertised a VHS VCR with wireless remote control. Regularly $349.95, it was on sale for $229.95. With it viewers could see new video movies, Hollywood classics or television soaps when they wanted to. Just one button started recording from 30 minutes to four hours.
