50 years ago (1961)
Shaffer Construction Co. signed a contract to remodel the Everett Elks building that caught fire last September. Bob Shaffer said no time would be wasted pushing the project to completion. Plans called for a totally new look emphasizing large windows to take in the views.
Hills Collins Jr., 17, was the skiff man on Johnny Lambright’s seiner Hazel. Lambright and his son, Jim, a former Everett High football star, were the only old hands at fishing aboard when the Hazel began the season. Others aboard were Rudy Mueller, John Larson and Jim Anthes. The Lambrights were chasing sockeye.
25 years ago (1986)
The South Everett Senior Little League beat Hawaii 6-3 to advance to advance to the championship game of the Northwest Division. South Everett scored three runs in the fourth inning for a 4-1 lead, scoring without a hit. Pitcher Danny Fiacco allowed just four hits.
After several months of debate the Port of Edmonds Commission decided to keep a grandfather clause that allowed boat owners who had been Edmonds tenants since before November 1975 to transfer moorage rights when they sold their boats. Currently there was a waiting list of 300.
