50 years ago (1961)
Edna French, member of Everett Garden Club, pointed out the lines of an unusual bit of driftwood which could be displayed by itself. Driftwood could be used as an accessory in floral arrangements as well.
Giving notice that backyard gardeners as well as farmers were going to have some excellent garden displays at the Evergreen State Fair this fall, Bob Stretch of Monroe uncovered a prime golden squash that was certain to give plenty of competition. He also had a tall stand of maturing corn of blue ribbon quality.
25 years ago (1986)
A pair of vigils commemorating the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were being held in downtown Everett. One, sponsored by the Sky Valley Peace Council and the Snohomish County Alliance for Peace, would be held at the federal building. The other, sponsored by the Snohomish County International Forum, would take place at the courthouse.
Classic Hi-Pro dog food appealed to dogs of all ages. It was available at Sultan Feed & Farm at 11 Main Street in Sultan and at Junction Center Store at 8411 State Road 92, Granite Falls.
