50 years ago (1961)
Jay Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Martin of 1731 Rucker Ave., accepted the first-place trophy he won in the annual teenage Road-E-O here last week from Mike Lewis of the Everett Police Department. Second place went to James Halverson and third to Arnold Hofmann.
The modern office and service headquarters building of Public Utility District of Snohomish County in Monroe would be opened to an announcement made by P.M. Black, president of the board of commissioners. The new facility was located at 120 Fremont St. on beautifully landscaped grounds.
25 years ago (1986)
A resolution condemning apartheid in South Africa passed by the Everett City Council was intended as a statement of the city’s openness to minorities. Sponsor Councilman Ed Morrow said the new Navy base would bring a more diverse population to town and he wanted the city on record assuring their human rights.
Among the outstanding three-sport athletes in the area were John Sygitowicz, Everett; Jeff Kohlwes, South Whidbey; T.T. Roe, Mountlake Terrace; Derrick Reuwaast, Darrington; Sophia Vicent, Snohomish; Tina Torgeson, Everett; Alayne Keppler, Cascade; and Tanna Jackson, Lake Stevens.
