50 years ago (1961)
Judy Thompson and Ann Taft, registered nurses at Everett General Hospital, attracted considerable attention this week as they gave a demonstration of blood transfusion techniques in a display window at the J.C. Penney store. Both hospitals and the county blood bank were noting National Hospital Week.
Sponsors of Safety Car Checks this weekend were offering prizes to motorists participating. Awards donated by B.F. Goodrich Co. were displayed by Carol Anderson and Marian Kadyk of the Safeteen Club at Everett High School.
25 years ago (1986)
Sharon Salyer, staff writer for The Herald, was honored by the Society of Professional Journalists-Sigma Delta Chi in its 1985 Pacific Northwest Excellence in Journalism competition. She won the second-place prize in the category of consumer and environmental-affairs for her coverage of the Snohomish River Delta.
Bevan Strabeck of Marysville braved the challenge of a rope bridge during Scout Expo ’86 as throngs of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorers from Snohomish and Island counties set up camp at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe and showed there was more to Scouting than knowing how to start a fire rubbing two sticks together.
