50 years ago (1961)
The public was invited to attend the Sultan PTA meeting in the high school cafeteria. Special education was the topic and Arline Bovee, Snohomish County consultant in special education, was the speaker. She would discuss meeting the needs of the exceptional child.

merson School’s Pack 114 issued a challenge to all Cub packs in Evergreen Area Council of Boy Scouts to the Pinewood Derby races during the Scoutorama at Marysville Community Hall. The derby was being displayed by Jim O’Grady, Jere Boggs and Philip Boggs.
25 years ago (1986)
The Snohomish County Economic Development Council had a new improved image. They wanted to become the area’s champion as a catalyst that attracted new businesses, the resource that helped in the continued growth of existing companies, and ultimately the indirect generator of more jobs.
The Herald plugged two new television sit-coms. One was “Mr. Sunshine,” featuring a blind college professor bucking the odds. The other, “Joe Bash,” was about a veteran cop nearing retirement and wanting to get through his tour with as little effort as possible.
