50 years ago (1961)
Ole Lervick of Lake Stevens died. Born in Norway and a county resident since 1909, he was active in the lumbering, agricultural and frozen foods industries. He was associated with his sons in Twin City Frozen Foods Co.
Great Northern Railroad workers dug into tons of clay and trees a slide dumped onto the tracks near Norma Beach. The slide covered nearly 100 yards of track. It delayed the eastbound Empire Builder for six hours and also the Seattle-bound International. The International was held in Everett and passengers were sent by bus to Seattle.
25 years ago (1986)
The Mukilteo School District was seeking applicants to fill the school board seat being vacated by Curt LeMaster. LeMaster announced last week he was moving out of District 3, making him ineligible to continue in the position. The district encompassed the city of Mukilteo and part of the Paine Field area.
Richard White, of Granite Falls, had $1,600 deducted from his income tax refund for a student loan he never had. The confusion stemmed from the fact that at least one other person shared his Social Security number. White joked that he was called “professor” at work now.
