50 years ago (1961)
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Carruthers, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Whitehead, Mr. and Mrs. Leo June and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Holmes had just returned from a 15-day trip to Hawaii where they visited Waikiki Beach, Kauai, Maui and the volcano island of Hawaii.
Beverly Twing, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Twing of East Stanwood, was leaving tomorrow for Sweden where she would live for the next six months. She was one of three from the state who were chosen to live abroad by International Farm Youth Exchange program.
25 years ago (1986)
Special awards to volunteers and agencies for their efforts to reduce drunken driving by the Snohomish County DWI Task Force. Awards of special recognition went to Marlene Erdahl, Dale Perry, Shirley Vandemeer, Richard Wigsmoen, Steven R. Hardy and the Washington State Teen Institute of Everett and Cascade high schools.
Bridge player Martin Knudson of Everett earned a first in section and placed third over-all in open pairs competition at the Spring North American Championships of the American Contract Bridge League, held last weekend in Portland.
