Dr. Ralph D. Brown was elected president of the General Hospital of Everett medical staff for the ensuing year during an election meeting. He would succeed Dr. W.E. Hummel. Dr. Charles A. Hammond was elected vice president and Dr. Edwin R. Slade elected secretary-treasurer.
Telegrams urging work on the Snohomish County portion of the Tacoma-Everett freeway should be sent to Sen. Nat Washington, chairman of the Senate Roads Committee, The Herald was informed today by Sen. William Gissberg. (William Gissberg and Ralph Brown were members of the Everett High School 1940 championship basketball team.)

With the state Lotto prize up to $8 million, local businesses were selling thousands of tickets a day. Gordon and Shirley Oglesby at the 7-Eleven at 13th Street and Broadway faced long lines of customers and simply asked them how many tickets. Al Brown, manager of Jim’s Texaco in Marysville, was selling more tickets than servicing cars.
Rick Steves was presenting a free seminar entitled “Europe on a Budget.” It would be in Everett in The Herald Community Room and in Lynnwood at Lynnwood High School.
