50 years ago (1961)
Everett Street Supt. Parker Galispy assisted Scott Krause, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Krause, Rt. 1 Monroe, at the city’s new water fountain in front of city hall. The new fountain replaced one broken last winter.
Wes Tyvog and Bob Erickson, members of the Everett High School championship bed pushing team, trotted down Colby Avenue behind their victory wagon after completing a 70-mile run from Granite Falls to Bothell via Monroe, Duvall and Redmond. The nine-man team took the title away from a Michigan team during an all-night run in sub-freezing temperatures.
25 years ago (1986)
Steven R. Sutton, of Everett, was a member of the Whitworth College choir in Spokane. The 65-voice choir was to appear at churches throughout Washington, Montana and California this month.
Monroe Junior High School’s jazz band earned a first-place award in competition at the University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival during the weekend over nine other groups in the junior high school division. The 18-piece group was directed by Paul Harshman, who said the U of I festival was considered the largest in the country.
