50 YEARS AGO (1959)
The Rev. Harold Williams presented Everett Exchange Club plaques to Girl of the Month Marcella Rawie and Boy of the Month John Shaddoff while Wheaton Scheldt looked on. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Rawie and he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Shaddoff.
H.A.B. Sneve, owner of Point Valdimar Farms at Silvana, wrote recently to the New York office of CARE that discarded farm machinery could be collected by service clubs and shipped by common carrier transportation to foreign countries for repair and continued use.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
A strong majority of Everett’s residents wanted a U.S. Navy base on Port Gardner, according to a Herald poll. In a telephone survey of 490 people conducted last week, 64.6 percent said they clearly favored an Everett base or were likely to support it. Also, 24.1 percent opposed the facility and 11.2 percent were undecided.
Effective Oct. 29, ABC Rental had merged with Anderson Rental (formerly Matthews Rental). Gene Peterson and staff could now be found at the Anderson Rental Location, 6417 Evergreen Way. This was Everett’s largest selection of tools for the do-it-yourselfer or contractor.
