50 years ago (1961)
A double birthday was the occasion for a party at Colby Manor Nursing Home last week. Celebrating her 82nd birthday was Cora May Baldwin. Joining her was her great-granddaughter Connie May Knutson of Edmonds, who celebrated her second birthday on the same day. A big cake was enjoyed by several family members.
Two important building permits were issued this week in Everett. One was for a new $200,000 Imperial 400 Motel at 10th St. and Broadway. The other was to Russell M. Cameron of Stanwood for a gasoline and oil storage plant at 2815 Highland Ave.
25 years ago (1986)
More than 37,400 buildings and sites had been placed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1966. In Snohomish County they varied from the stately Rucker Mansion on Everett’s Laurel Drive to the Soap Suds Row mill workers cottages in Snohomish.
A new covered stadium at Marysville-Pilchuck High School to replace stands destroyed by fire in May were expected to be completed in time for next fall’s football season. The new concrete Quil Ceda Stadium was being constructed by Kirtley Cole of Snohomish.
