Louis Bruno, recently elected state superintendent of public instruction, was the guest speaker at the View Ridge PTA meeting. Bruno’s background in education included a variety of posts, including that of being a teacher in Darrington.
Names in “Along Colby” included Bud Carpenter, Lloyd Wold, Mike Cates, Mike Kane, Norm O’Donnell, Ray Johnson, Bess Durr, Maxine Hackman, Brian and Melvia Corcoran, Dean and Barbara Loper, Hugh Harvey, Art Torkelson, Harry Kluge, Dave Hartley and Keith Rummery.
25 years ago (1986)
State forestry officials voted to transfer 158 acres of ridge top between Snohomish and Monroe to Snohomish County for a wilderness park. The land was part of a 1,000-acre Lords Hill tract held in trust since the county deeded it to the state over 40 years ago. County council member Don Britton wanted it to stay wilderness.
Dean Lambe, an Edmonds high school graduate and now a resident of Marietta, Ohio, was one of seven science fiction writers taking part in a Battelle Memorial Institute workshop in Seattle recently concerning the Army’s role in the 21st century. Lambe held a doctorate from Duke University in psychobiology.
