50 years ago (1961)
Wayne Klever, president of Washington Skyways, signed a lease for use of one of the five new hangar building at Snohomish County Airport.. Looking on were Mardy Cummins of the county airport staff, George Petrie, airport manager, and George W. Thomas, Washington Skyways secretary.
Believed to be the first Spanish ship in Port Gardner Bay since the days of the Spanish Main, the S.S. Dias de Solis was at the Weyerhaeuser pier to load pulp for Europe. It was expected to leave Everett in the morning.
25 years ago (1986)
A Midwestern-style thunderstorm had blown through the Puget Sound area with driving rain, 50 mph winds and lightning. The high winds caused a house fire in Everett while lightning shattered windows and blew out appliances in Mountlake Terrace. Kerry Edwards of PUD said many power failures could be attributed to the wind.
Tien Tonnu, 16-year-old pianist, made a solid hit with members of the Everett Symphony when she rehearsed with the group. She was the winner of the Snohomish County Music Teachers Association piano competition held last September
