50 years ago (1961)
Dr. Emmanuel Bitar was promoted to president from vice president of the medical staff at Providence Hospital. Other new officers installed at the meeting included Dr. Ernest Eytinge, vice president, and Dr. Eugene Bond, secretary-treasurer. Retiring officers were Dr. Rollin Wyrens and Dr. John Woods.
Robert M. Boyle was named chairman of the adult program department committee of the YMCA. His appointment was announced today by William M. Jenkins, president of the Y Board. The adult department was a new department set up following the recent remodeling and expansion.
25 years ago (1986)
“Public wish list is long, money short” read the front page headline as state legislators promised little on the eve of a tricky session. Lynnwood’s waste treatment plant at Browns Bay seemed far removed from the halls of government in Olympia, but cleaning up Puget Sound was a priority for legislators. It would increase sewer rates.
The International Student Exchange Program was seeking local families to host Scandinavian, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Swiss and Canadian girls and boys ages 16 to 18 for the upcoming high school year. Those interested could contact Victoria Wilbanks, 1324 Lombard Ave.
