50 years ago (1961)
C.S. “Casey” Jones, new president of the Everett Rock and Gem Club, was congratulated by Salmer Olsen, outgoing president of the organization. Among the other new officers installed were Louis Maxwell, Melissa McNall and Dr. George Moll.
Chester Jensen would be installed as president of the Marysville Chamber of Commerce tomorrow at Cedarcrest Restaurant. Serving with him would be Ethelynn Lewis and Dr. Robert Beaman. Following the installation would be recognition of the retirement of Dr. J.W. Rose, who had served the community since the late 1920s.
25 years ago (1986)
The Everett City Council authorized a study of the final segment of a proposed bike-pedestrian path circling the entire Everett peninsula. Planning Director Dennis Derickson said the new portion would run from the E.A. Nord Co. on the north waterfront to the Lowell River Road.
What started out as a 15-ship Naval battle group here was reduced to 13 last year and could shrink to 11. There was a question whether two minesweepers would join the frigates, destroyers, cruisers and the USS Nimitz, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.
