50 years ago (1961)
L.N. Reichmann, manager of the Everett branch of the Lumber and Plywood Division of Weyerhaeuser, was retiring, it was announced today. His successor was Ned B. Hazen of Raymond. Reichmann had been with Weyerhaeuser for 42 years. He was active in community and industrial affairs here.
The Everett YMCA was having an open house tomorrow to showcase the new addition. In the new building were a shallow instruction pool, a new gymnasium and a conditioning room. During the festivities Hill Bros. coffee would be served along with cookies made by the “Y” Women’s Auxiliary.
25 years ago (1986)
Bickford Motors, between Snohomish and Everett on old Highway 2, announced its employees of the year. Rick Nelson was employee of the year, Mark Overby was manager of the year, and Ed Nagell was salesman of the year. Bickford, family-owned since 1933, sold Fords and Mercurys.
The Darrington Cemetery Association was holding a public meeting to discuss a proposal to have the town take over maintenance of the community’s only graveyard. Bill Shanahan was association president. If approved it would make the cemetery part of Darrington’s park system.
