50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Eleanor Carolyn Handy and Albert Westerhof were married earlier this month at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Carlton Goodwin performing the ceremony. She was the daughter of Arthur Handy, and he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Westerhof.
Dikes at the south end of Ebey Island started to crumble before the continuing push of tons of swiftly flowing flood waters. The trestle was closed to through traffic for an escape route for a large dairy herd. The animals were herded to Cavalero’s Corner.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Five new members of the Everett Police Reserves were sworn in at the Everett City Council meeting. Receiving badges from council President Ray Stephanson were Kenneth Cole, Jerome Craig, Karol Foxworthy, Kyle Moseley, Mark Pederson, Laura Fowler and Susan Williams. To earn their commissions, they completed 248 hours of training.
Firefighters were mopping up this morning at the national headquarters of Bayliner Corp. in Arlington after an overnight fire leveled a yacht assembly plant with 18 large boats. Precise damage estimates were not immediately available, but company officials thought it might reach $2 million.
