50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Verne Beauchamp Inc. was awarded the contract to construct the St. Mary Magdalen Parish and School, it was announced today from the office of Harry E. Botesch, architect, and F. Edward Brown, associate. Located on Farmers Road south of Everett, the building would be two levels in a semi “L” shape.
Motorists could save at Super Save Stations at 1901 Everett Ave. in Everett and 1034 State St. in Marysville. Super Save attendants were Don “Donny” Neiffer, Mark “Mick” Olsen, John “Tex” Smith, and Newton “Scoot” Waldrop.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Herald editorial page editor Louis Wein wrote that county residents had a special role to play in bringing more salmon back to Puget Sound. The rapid population growth posed a huge threat to local water resources. He urged readers to adopt a county stream.
Bar-code systems, familiar to grocery shoppers as the set of closely spaced dark lines tucked into the corner of many packages, were gaining increased use for product identification in the defense, auto and health-care industries. It was in the testing stage, said David Czaplicki, manager for corporate communications for Intermec Corp. of Lynnwood.
