50 YEARS AGO (1959)
One of the newest PTAs in the county, just organized at the new Tulalip School, got a boost from visiting Cascade PTA of Marysville. Ivalee Rensik, secretary of Cascade PTA, presented 50 cups to Harriet Shelton Dover, president of the new group. Arthur Jensen, Cascade principal, presented a coffee urn from his school’s student body.
Residents in the Mukilteo School District were in for a treat next Tuesday when the district’s music department was presenting its Christmas concert at Olympic View Junior High School. Among those taking part were Diane Torgerson of the chorus, Douglas Cook of the orchestra, and Gary Skinner of the band.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Taking advantage of the hour-later starting time for Everett schools, children skidded down 23rd Street near Grand Avenue. Everett shivered as temperatures hovered near record lows. The lure of a warm meal and a warm bed packed houses at the Everett Gospel Mission’s men’s dorm and the women’s shelter.
The Internal Revenue Service was looking for volunteers in Snohomish County to help people with their income-tax forms. The program was relatively new to the area, according to Connie Denson-Hamilton, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance director.
