50 YEARS AGO (1959)
The First Federal Savings and Loan Association building at 2822 Wetmore Ave. was purchased by Everett Realtor Vic Johnson. He planned to move from his old office across the street at 2819 Wetmore Ave. Everett Federal planned to move into its new building at 2702 Colby Ave. over the New Year’s weekend.
The Herald was full of after-Christmas, year-end sales advertisements. Some of the businesses were Penney’s, The Bon Marche, Kress, Hellenthal’s and Carruthers and Whitehead.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
It was down to the final days and final prices at the Friedlander Jewelry liquidation sale. The firm was now taking written bids on all fixtures at the store that had been a fixture itself at Hewitt and Colby avenues.
Bush House Country Inn in Index was offering a holiday feast. Joseph and Pamela Skorupski invited families to join theirs at the historic mountain hotel. The meal included scalloped oysters, eggplant, smoked ham, cheddar grits pudding, peach halves and pineapple upside-down cake. Wines from Paul Thomas, Columbia Gardens and Champs De Brionne were featured.
